U.S. Hearing Protection Devices Are Proving To Significantly Essential For Individuals Working In A Hazardous Noisy Environment

U.S. Hearing Protection Devices

Hearing protection devices, also called an HPD, are simply an ear protector worn either over the ears or in a case that combines the two to help keep noise out during hazardous noise environments. HPDs also reduce the amount of noise entering into the ear by allowing only sound waves through. It is important to note that while such protective devices are recommended for children and young adults, they are absolutely not suitable for adults. The primary reason is that their use is only appropriate where the child or adult is not susceptible to noise damage to the ears brought on by hearing loss from exposure to prolonged loud noise.

There are several different types of U.S. hearing protection devices. Most are either ear defenders (over the counters) or full-faced (behind the back) devices. Ear Protectors are simple plastic pieces of foam that fit inside the ear, while fully-formulated protection devices are custom-fit pieces of foam that go right up against the eardrum. Both types protect the ears by filtering out loud sounds. They both work well to prevent hearing loss but in very different ways. The U.S. hearing protection devices damage the ear by neutralizing the sound. They don't block out all the noise, but just the annoying stuff. Many people find that this enough to protect their hearing, and they never wear devices for anything else.

Full-faced devices are the most complicated and expensive of all the options available for protecting the hearing. These fit completely inside the ear, so they aren't blocking out the outside noise like earplugs are. This allows them to block out the most background noise, thus decreasing the risk of hearing loss. They are most effective when combined with hearing aids. Recently, in March 2021, Honeywell International Inc., a U.S.-based company, launched a new earplug dispenser Honeywell HL400 featuring antimicrobial protection.
