Industries in Japan Increase Investment in Manufacture and Assembly of Marine Actuators and Valves
Marine actuators and valves are devices that serve to move and control a system or mechanism, such as by opening a particular valve. In plain English, it is a "motion controller". There are several different types of actuators, depending on the need they fill. Actuators have two major types, which are known as mechanical actuators and hydraulic actuators. Mechanic actuators are designed to create movement in a fluid or other medium and to change the shape of it by impinging upon the boundary.
Hydraulic
actuators use hydraulic diaphragms that force the fluid to move and change its
shape. Electro-hydraulic actuators and
hydraulic cylinders may be similar in size and find application in outdoor
equipment, marine, military, aerospace and many other fields. Other types of
marine actuators and valves include, pneumatic, electric, and thermal or
magnetic. Electric actuators can be further classified into electromechanical
actuator, electrohydraulic actuator, and linear motor. In February 2021, Thomson
Industries, Inc., a manufacturer of linear motion control solutions that
operates in the U.S., Japan, Germany, and other countries, launched the
Electrak LL electric linear actuator.
Japan
is witnessing increasing investment in manufacturing of marine actuators and
valves. In February 2021, Nikkiso Cryogenic Industries’ Clean Energy &
Industrial Gases Group, a subsidiary of Nikkiso Co., Ltd (Japan), announced
their Pump Unit has acquired the intellectual property to manufacture and
assemble electric-mechanical actuators and the associated control panels. Electric
gage actuators are easy to install and eliminate problems associated with the
conventional pneumatic solutions. They reduce maintenance time and cost and
provide gaging solutions with consistent, fast and precise control of the
process. In 2020, SMAC Moving Coil Actuators, the U.S.-based industrial
equipment supplier, launched a series of electric gage actuators.
