Anastrozole Tablets; Used to Treat Breast Cancer or to Slow/Reverse the Cancer Growth

Anastrozole Tablets

Anastrozole is available as a generic drug, sold under the brand name Arimidex. Anastrozole tablets are used for the treatment of breast cancer after menopause. Some breast cancer grow faster with a natural hormone known as estrogen. Anastrozole tablets help reduce the amount of estrogen and help to slow or reverse the breast cancer growth. These tablets are widely used to treat women diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer, hormone-receptor-positive or women diagnosed with metastatic hormone-receptor-positive, last-stage breast cancer. Anastrozole tablets were approved in 1995 for medical use in the United States.

Anastrozole tablets may cause hair loss or alopecia because of its estrogen lowering effects; however, it is unlikely to cause complete hair loss. Hair loss usually improves after the first year of treatment. There are several side effects associated with Anastrozole tablets, such as user may experience weakness in hand or wrist, numbness, mood changes, depression, weight changes, vaginal bleeding, hot flashes, tiredness, trouble sleeping, dizziness, dry mouth, headache, breast swelling/tenderness/pain, loss of appetite, upset stomach, vomiting, nausea, and body aches or pain (joint pain, bone pain, or back pain).

Moreover, Anastrozole can be used in men to increase testosterone levels without impairing fertility and to treat hypogonadism in men with elevated estrogen levels. Anastrozole tablets are widely used by athletes and bodybuilders to reduce the estrogen levels, a side effect of steroid use. However, with increasing incidence of breast cancer, the demand for Anastrozole tablets is also increasing. Breast cancer is the most common cancer and the most common cancerrelated cause of death in Germany. While, incidence and mortality of breast cancer have risen in the past few decades in Mexico.

Furthermore, according to the Japanese National Vital Statistics, around 13,240 annual deaths are due to breast cancer in females, and breast cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related death in Japan.
