The Emergence of COVID-19 Has Increased the Demand for Cleanroom Consumables

Cleanroom Consumables

Cleanroom consumables are widely used across various industrial domains, such as medical devices, pharmaceutical and biotechnology, electronics, academics, automotive, and aerospace and defense. Cleanroom consumables include cleanroom apparels, such as hoods, face masks, pants, shoe covers, sleeves, bouffants, frocks, and coveralls, cleaning products, such as cleaning chemicals, wringers, buckets, cleanroom mops, etc., cleanroom stationery, such as binders, adhesive pads, notebooks, papers, etc., dry and wet wipers, gloves, and adhesive mats.

A cleanroom is a controlled environment where pollutants, such as aerosol particles, airborne microbes, and dust are filtered out to provide the cleanest area possible. A cleanroom or a work area is a very sterile environment where no disease, bacteria, or other germs can spread around. This is where cleaning products come into the picture. By using the best of cleaning products, businesses keep their work area clean and odor free. Most companies that do business in a professional environment have an area designated for cleanroom consumables.

The emergence of COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) has significantly increased the demand for cleanroom consumables in the last few months. The number of COVID-19 cases are increasing at an exponential rate, worldwide. As of 4:21pm CET, 21 February 2021, there have been 110,749,023 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 2,455,131 deaths, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Moreover, in March 2020, the WHO estimated that to deal with the COVID-19 epidemic, around 76 million gloves, 1.6 million goggles, and 89 million masks will be required.

Furthermore, with the rising number of surgical procedures and increasing hospital admissions, the demand for cleanroom consumables is also increasing at a rapid pace. For instance, in 2020, Contec launched the first Green Cleanroom Wipe and CyQuanol Sterile CyQuanol is an EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) registered ready-to-use, intermediate cleaner/disinfectant. However, cleanrooms in various countries is regulated under the guidelines and rules set by the regional agencies. Thus, it has become increasingly difficult for cleanable consumables manufacturers to adhere to diverse standards to explore international markets.
