Flavoxate hydrochloride tablets are used to treat bladder spasms, nocturia, dysuria, urinary frequency, suprapubic pain, discomfort when passing urine, urgency, and incontinence. These tablets are not indicated for definitive treatment but are compatible with drugs used for the treatment of urinary tract infections. Flavoxate hydrochloride is a muscle relaxant with urinary antispasmodic properties.

Flavoxate helps to modify the micturition center in the brain stem by increasing the capacity of the urinary bladder, providing relief from incontinence, frequency, suprapubic pain, nocturia, urgency, and dysuria. Flavoxate hydrochloride tablets are available under the trade name Genurin (by Recordati, Italy) in Italy. Generally, it is well-tolerated, but can potentially cause, eye pain, blurred vision, dry mouth or throat, upset stomach, vomiting, and increased sensitivity of eyes to light.

Flavoxate hydrochloride tablets are used to treat overactive bladder (a problem that causes frequent urination, inability to control urination, and urgent need to urinate) relieve painfully, or nighttime urination and urgency that may occur with kidney, bladder, or prostate infection. Causes of overactive bladder can include nerve damage, weak muscles, use of medications, infection, caffeine or alcohol, and being overweight.

Flavoxate hydrochloride tablets are available as a single tablet, with one infusion or with a sustained-release system. Intravenous therapy, often combined with other medications, is recommended for short term treatment of acute urinary tract spasmolytic conditions in patients not responding to initial therapies. Single doses up to 300 mg may be administered once daily. There are no contraindications.

Flavoxate is a class of drugs called antimuscarinics; works by relaxing the bladder muscles. However, it does not cure infections; it is not an antibiotic. Flavoxate helps to reduce bladder pain, frequent trips to the bathroom, feelings of needing to urinate right away, and leaking of urine. It is taken by mouth to help decrease muscle spasms of the bladder and relieve difficult urination and is only available with the prescription.
