Mobile Gaming; an Enormously Popular Sector of the Video Games Industry

Mobile Gaming

Mobile gaming refers to the games specially designed for mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablets, feature phones, smartwatches, portable media players, and others. Over the years, the mobile gaming world has changed, for instance, from the snake games to the 3D games and augmented reality games on today's smartphones. However, mobile devices need a big random access memory (RAM), a high resolution mobile display, dedicated graphics processing unit (GPU), and a speedy performing central processing unit (CPU) to run advanced mobile games.

Smartphones have become more affordable and the industry has outpaced PCs and consoles as the largest mobile gaming category. Japan was the first country to commercialize mobile gaming, and this trend spread through to North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and eventually the rest of the world where smartphones were available. Over the years, mobile gaming has become a huge hit with both children and adults. Thus, more people are purchasing smart phones with built-in gaming capabilities. As a result, more companies are releasing smart phones specifically designed for children and adults to play casual games while on the go.

For instance, in October 2020, Asus launched new ROG Phone 3, a 5G gaming phone in the United States. The ROG Phone 3 has some of the highest specs out there for a smartphone along with a bunch of features and accessories meant to enhance the mobile gaming experience. With the prevalence of smartphones, it is no wonder why developers are making their titles available for mobile devices. Smartphones offer consumers a unique opportunity to play games while on the go. Developers are quickly realizing this and are developing titles for both children and adults on both touch screen devices and traditional gaming consoles.

The future of gaming may well see more new titles being developed for mobile devices. Such advancements are also facilitating the development of completely new categories of games, such as education, sports, entertainment, social networking, and real time strategy games.
