Disposable Tweezers; Medical Devices Used During Surgical and Other Medical Procedures
Disposable tweezers are small medical devices used to pick objects during surgical procedures, cosmetic procedures, and dental procedures. They are made up of different materials such as plastics (polystyrene and high density poly ethylene) and stainless steel. Disposable tweezers are available in various types according to their applications such as curved tweezers, round tip tweezers, square tip tweezers, pointed slant tweezers, pointed tip tweezers, and slanted tip tweezers.
Medical forceps are surgical and medical devices used during
surgical and other medical procedures. They are used for clamping, tweezing,
and applying pressure, as well as can be used as extractors or pincers. Forceps
can be divided into two categories, such as ring forceps (also known as locking
forceps, hemostatic forceps, and hemostats) and thumb forceps (also known as
pinning forceps or tweezers). Thumb forceps are available with a variety of
tips.
Dental tweezers are used by dentists to place cotton rolls between the cheek and gum. Dental tweezers help keep small objects inside the mouth and bring small objects back from the mouth. These tweezers come in either locking or non-locking types. Dental tweezers have either a curved or straight tip that can be either smooth or serrated. With increasing incidence of dental diseases (such as tooth loss, periodontal disease, and dental caries), the number of dental procedures is also increasing. This results in increasing use of
medical disposables such as disposable tweezers and forceps in dentistry procedures.
According to the United States Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention (CDC), more than one in four (around 26%) adults in the U.S.
have untreated tooth decay. Moreover, around half (46%) of all adults aged 30
years or older show signs of gum disease, while severe gum disease affects
about 9% of adults. Disposable tweezers come in a variety of tip shapes and
sizes. In a scientific or medical context, tweezers are normally referred to as
forceps.
